Richard D. Emmerson

An advisor to SSEK since 1996, Mr. Emmerson has 30 years of experience as a corporate-commercial lawyer. His practice includes foreign investment planning, establishment of subsidiaries and joint venture companies and their ongoing corporate and commercial affairs, corporate restructuring, mergers and acquisitions, and labour law.


Mr. Emmerson has extensive experience in privatizations and infrastructure development projects (toll roads, drinking water, private power) and advises clients in the insurance, oil and gas, real estate, services and manufacturing sectors. He also represents lenders and borrowers in international syndicated loan, project finance and debt restructuring transactions.


Mr. Emmerson has been endorsed by Chambers Global and Asia Law & Practice as a leading practitioner in the fields of corporate and commercial law, corporate restructuring and corporate governance, and has also been endorsed by the International Financial Law Review, Chambers Asia and Asia Law & Practice as a leading labour and employment lawyer.


Mr. Emmerson has been a Director of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Indonesia since 1998. He has lectured at the Faculties of Law of the University of Indonesia, Trisakti University and the University of Gadjah Mada.


Mr. Emmerson was admitted to the Law Society of Upper Canada (Ontario) as a Barrister and Solicitor in 1985. He is a graduate of Queen's University in Canada (B.A. Honours Political Studies 1980; LL.B. 1983). He practiced law in Toronto, Canada from 1985 to 1991 specializing in corporate and commercial law, and in Seoul, Korea from 1991 to 1995. He is a member of the Inter-Pacific Bar Association, the Law Firm Network and the Employment Lawyers Alliance.
