Dewi Savitri Reni

In 2005, Dewi Savitri Reni received her LL.B. from the University of Indonesia, where she was honored as the Leading Student from both the Faculty of Law and the University. Vitri received a Fulbright scholarship to study law at the University of California, Berkeley, where she earned an LL.M. in 2008. In 2015, Vitri was a guest lecturer at UC Berkeley, discussing Indonesian legal reforms.

 

Her areas of practice include debt restructuring and insolvency, oil and gas law, shipping law, mergers and acquisitions, and civil litigation. In 2012, Vitri was the lead associate in Arpeni Pratama Ocean Line's successful debt restructuring, one of the largest and most complex debt restructurings in Indonesian history, and in the acquisition of SJ Indonesia by South Korea's Hotel Lotte. Vitri has advised major Indonesian companies (including Arpeni, Sampoerna and Pertamina) and global Fortune 500 entities (Exxon, Ford and General Electric, among others).

 

Vitri started her career as a defense attorney at one of the most prestigious litigation law firms in Jakarta. There, she defended numerous high-profile clients, including Prada (trademark infringement), the former Prime Minister of East Timor, Mari Alkatiri (conspiracy to murder), Tommy Soeharto (banking) and Marubeni Corporation (torts). After completing her LL.M., Vitri worked for an intellectual property law firm in Houston, Texas.

 

She has received numerous awards for her outstanding advocacy. For two consecutive years, she and her team won the National Championship of the Philip C. Jessup Competition, the largest and most prestigious international law moot court competition in the world. She was the speaker who represented Indonesia at the international rounds of the Jessup Competition held in Washington, DC, where she finished 20th in the Top 100 Best Oralists.

 

Vitri and her team also finished in fifth place in the Alona E. Evans Award for Best Memorial and the Octa-Finalist Award at the same competition. In recognition of her accomplishments, Vitri was nominated for the Hewlett-Packard Indonesian Youth Leadership Award in 2005. She regularly gives presentations at the American Indonesian Exchange Foundation (AMINEF) and the An-Najah Foundation.

 

Vitri has written numerous legal articles that have appeared in leading newspapers and magazines and on legal websites, including The Jakarta Post, International Law Bulletin, Hukumonline.com, NYU.com and HG.org.

 

She is admitted to practice law in both Indonesia and New York, and maintains outstanding ties with Indonesian government officials, civil society and lawyers.
