Bezaliel Basuki Erlan graduated from the Faculty of Law of Jakarta's Atma Jaya University in 2002, and earned his Master of Laws (LL.M.) from Duke University in 2015. Prior to joining SSEK in 2008, he was a legal officer at a multinational bank headquartered in Australia and was the assistant legal manager for a multinational insurance company with its head office in France.
Clients and colleagues praise Bezaliel for his analytical skills and his ability to provide practical legal solutions to real-world business problems. Bezaliel has repeatedly demonstrated his ability to explain Indonesia's complex laws and regulations so that clients gain new insight into the risks and opportunities involved in their business plans.
Bezaliel specializes in foreign investment, banking and finance, and insurance law, as well as practicing general corporate law. He has been involved in numerous major projects at SSEK. His experience includes advising one of South Korea's largest banking and insurance groups on a potential acquisition in Indonesia, working with an international banking group on highly regulated housing loan documentation for Indonesia and assisting one of Indonesia's largest banks in a review of its loan arrangements with corporate and individual customers.
He was the co-leader on the restructuring of the Indonesian subsidiaries of the biggest insurance company in France, and advised a global banking group on the transfer of receivables secured under fiduciary security.
Bezaliel was named an Associate to Watch for Banking & Finance in the 2015 Chambers Asia-Pacific guide to the region's leading business lawyers. Bezaliel was praised as "an outstanding practitioner who takes charge of a situation" and is "patient in listening to all the stakeholders."
Bezaliel is a member of the Indonesian Advocates Association (Peradi).
