SSEK Works with EU on Halal Certification Guidelines
11 May 2020

SSEK Indonesian Legal Consultants, led by partners Rusmaini Lenggogeni and Stephen Igor Warokka, is working with the European Union on a project to produce guidelines for business on halal certification for food products in Indonesia.

As part of that project, SSEK associate Syarifah Reihana Fakhry recently discussed the halal guidelines that SSEK produced, with GOPA consultants, at an EU Delegation meeting attended by around 40 participants.

SSEK and Syarifah then attended a follow-up meeting with trade counselors from EU member states to discuss the Indonesian Halal Law and the halal certification process. This meeting was attended by the EU Delegation to Indonesia and ambassadors, deputy heads of mission, political officers and economic and trade counselors from the Indonesian embassies of EU countries including Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Poland and Spain.

The halal guidelines produced by SSEK explain the halal product assurance (inspection) and certification processes in Indonesia (as of March 2020), and how businesses can obtain certification under the prevailing laws and regulations.
