Michael Carl of SSEK to Speak at LAWASIA Conference

Michael S. Carl, a foreign legal advisor at SSEK in Jakarta, Indonesia, has been invited to speak at the LAWASIA Conference in Bangkok. Michael will speak at the corporate securities and investment session on "Hot FDI Destinations of ASEAN Community 2015." The session will take place on Saturday, October 4, the second day of the four-day conference.

Michael joined SSEK in 2004 and has 18 years of experience practicing law in Southeast Asia. Before joining SSEK, he was associated with the international law firm Baker & McKenzie in its Singapore and Bangkok offices, where he represented Indonesian and Thai concerns in US debt and equity offerings and debt restructurings.

At SSEK, Michael specializes in securities, mergers and acquisitions, banking transactions, and mining and natural resources. He is recognized by Chambers Asia-Pacific and IFLR1000 as a leading practitioner in the fields of M&A, banking and finance, capital markets, restructuring and insolvency, projects and natural resources, and telecommunications. In 2012, Michael was voted an External Counsel of the Year for Indonesia by the readers of Asian-MENA Counsel.

Micahel received his J.D. in 1994 from the University of California at Berkeley (Boalt Hall) School of Law and is a member of the California State Bar. He received an Indonesian law degree in 2012 from Atma Jaya University in Jakarta. Michael is fluent in Indonesian and proficient in Thai.

LAWASIA is an international organization of lawyers' associations, individual lawyers, judges, legal academics, and others which focuses on the interests and concerns of the legal profession in the Asia Pacific. The theme of the conference in Bangkok is "Cutting-Edge Issues for LAWASIA Lawyers." It will explore current legal issues in the region in areas of law such as banking and finance, employment and taxation.
