SSEK Wins Asian-MENA Counsel Deal of the Year
28 April 2014

SSEK has been recognized for its work on the BlueScope Steel and Nippon Steel joint venture, which was named a 2013 Deal of the Year by Asian-MENA Counsel. This US$1.36 billion deal involved a tie-up between Australia's BlueScope Steel and Japan's Nippon Steel.

Nippon Steel acquired a 50 percent stake in BlueScope Steel as part of a strategic partnership that should allow BlueScope to boost sales in the expanding Southeast Asia market.

Asian-MENA Counsel noted that this was a sizable deal that entailed anti-trust approvals as well as complex regulatory processes in eight different jurisdictions in relation to the incorporation and capitalization of companies and transfer of shares.

SSEK acted as Indonesian counsel for BlueScope Steel. King & Wood Mallesons was international counsel for BlueScope Steel.

SSEK partner Ira A. Eddymurthy led the SSEK team involved in the transaction.

Asian-MENA Counsel is a monthly legal publication published by Pacific Business Press for corporate counsel in the Asia Pacific and the Middle East.
